How do i know if he likes me?

okay so i have know this guy "charlie" since 4th grade but we just recently started talking- texting really, about a month ago. every day he texts me, he always is really caring- like asking how my tennis match went and stuff and he always says that we "should've hung out" or something like that. But we have Lit together, and are in the same discussion group, we met with this group every day- and always talk. he is the only guy there. I dont know if he likes me or not because he never really talks to me, when i talk he always looks at me, and if i look at him while talking- he kinda shyly looks away. he always says hi and stuff- but never will start up a conversation. IDK if he is just being kinda like a player- or if he is really shy to talk to me. i really like him so i was just wondering. thanks! :)
